Silverburn

On Monday a friend and I drove about thirty five minutes out of St Andrews to visit the nature walk at Silverburn. It was very beautiful and also slightly strange... completely deserted except a few stray golfers on the connected course (granted, it is January), with a view of the ocean and, eerily, peppered with derelict and boarded up buildings. It was a good day for a walk, mostly dry and sunny, and we had our lunch at a tea room connected to a local farm. All very Scottish and in the end, quite pleasant.

London Through Instagram

Waiting in LAX

The Tate Britain

Sorry to any of you who follow me on instagram and have already seen these... I am terribly lax about taking pictures, especially in places I've already been before.

Anyways, London was wonderful and beautiful and exciting, as it always is. The more times I'm there the more I think I can in all truth refer to it as my favorite city in the world... with all the history it's experienced and literature it's inspired and artistic, cultural and architectural treasures it holds. Even in Elephant & Castle (where our hostel was, and which was affectionately characterized by a Local as, excuse my language, "the sh*tty bit of London"), there is a pulse and general feeling of aliveness, the same by which I am struck anew every time I visit.

All that to say, I am happy to be back in St. Andrews. Funny how you sometimes love a place more going back to it then first arriving.

Hope things are well at home and that you've all experienced some moments of light and joy in the the dark and dismal month that is January.

P.S. I promise I will try to blog more this term... I am going on a little trip tomorrow (pictures!) and I have at least two trips to Edinburgh planned, so stories should be a comin'...
